Volunteering strategy & solutions

Much of my work is in volunteering - whether that’s building an innovative new strategy, creating specific products or designing practical solutions to volunteering’s biggest barriers.

I do this for individual volunteering programmes and national volunteering initiatives, which takes me into every corner of volunteering and gives me a unique perspective on the sector’s trends and challenges.

For example, I’ve worked on successful legacy programmes from major sports events, run the National Programmes portfolio at Volunteering Matters and led data and insights in central government’s volunteering unit during Covid-19.

And as a freelancer I’ve played key roles developing England’s national Vision for Volunteering, delivering both The Big Help Out campaigns, designing solutions for statutory health and care systems and launching the Digital In Volunteering initiative.

Non-profit development

Beyond volunteering, I draw on my experience and networks across the UK charity sector to help non-profits tackle their thorniest challenges and build resilience.

Combining business development and marketing techniques with my programme management and governance experience, I help clients to pursue values-driven growth by:

  • uncovering and leveraging their under-used assets, creating eye-catching new narratives and support cases

  • build new partnerships or engage stakeholders, with neutrality, purpose and credibility

  • offer thought leadership and practical solutions to their strategic and operational non-profit challenges.


How I charge

I use a spectrum of day rates depending on the nature of the work and how much management responsibility you want me to take on. I’m not precious about what I think I’m worth, and this helps me stay flexible and competitive on price.
